Many cyclists are diligent about checking the As (air), Bs (brakes), and Cs (chain) before going for a ride. But are we checking the tension on those spokes too? Spokes are the lifeline to keeping your bike’s wheels straight and true with each rotation, and one ride represents thousands of rotations on your wheels.
Make those spokes the ‘s’ in your ABCs. Simply hold two spokes together with your index finger and thumb and squeeze lightly. Do this with every spoke on your front and rear wheels. The tension should feel firm. If one or a few spokes feel loose, wiggly, or you can shake it from side to side, visit your trusty mechanic to tighten and true the wheel(s).
Happy Riding!
